The Author
Yancey Williams began writing seriously after graduating from the University of Colorado.
His satirical view of life finds its origin in Williams’ own experiences: “My life has been a jumble, a rumble, peaks and valleys, crazy stuff, good stuff, bad stuff, indifferent happenings, restful and peaceful stuff along with tranquility and nirvana at odd and unexpected times. It, all of it, certainly has provided the zany backdrops and canvas for everything I have written to date.”
While he isn’t writing for the masses, Williams does seek to connect with certain readers–the ones who relate to his offbeat point of view and find joy in life’s understated and over-the-top humor. When Williams writes, he describes his state of mind as dream-like, which he draws upon to transport his readers to the worlds he creates.
When beginning a new book, he initially does not know how the story will materialize. His characters are completely fictional and become as real to him as his own two children. His stories and characters develop and unfold naturally, which makes for a visceral reading experience.
Williams is inspired and motivated by classic authors from Hemingway to Shakespeare. His favorites include Mark Twain, Joyce Carol Oates, John Updike, John Cheever, Walker Percy and Kurt Vonnegut–and elements of each of these writers’ works can be found in the pages of Williams’ books.
Williams resides in the low country of South Carolina and enjoys water skiing, scuba diving and playing his collection of twelve vintage guitars.
